Lesson

Ancient Greek philosopher and polymath, Aristotle said,

“He who has never learned to obey cannot be a good commander.”

If we don’t respect those in authority over us, how can we expect those we have authority over to respect us? This is a lesson I was very slow to learn. I was naturally well connected with my teams but failed to connect and respect those over me. This led to conflict and misalignment. But it also diluted my effectiveness with the people I led. When I began to adjust my mindset and behaviours and honor and respect those to whom I reported it amplified the effectiveness in my own team.

What can you do today to learn to obey those in authority over you?
