Meddle

26th President of the United States, Theodore (Teddy) Roosevelt said,

“The best executive is the one who picks good men and has self-restraint enough to keep from meddling with them.”

This is the most common mistake I see leaders make! It is frustrating for all parties. I love being micro-managed said nobody ever. I’ve seen talented engaged people literally wither under an assault of a multitude of questions or micro instructions. No one is going to be effective in that environment.

Do your good people leave? Do you have no trust in your team? Are you working long hours and don’t understand why your team is not as engaged as you? This could well be your problem.

Will you break the cycle? Hire great people and stay out of their way.
