Passion

Legendary leadership guru John Maxwell said,

“A great leader’s courage to fulfil his vision comes from passion, not position.” 

There is no doubt that it takes a lot of courage to be a leader. But where is that courage anchored. According to Maxwell it is in passion. Just as you can’t demand respect, your position won’t help you achieve a vision unless it’s accompanied by passion.

People do respect position, but only as institutionalized power. It is not engaging nor motivating and even at its absolute peak, it can only generate compliance. What we want is commitment. That is, if you want to achieve your vision.
